When life feels busy, I want to come home to a space that feels calm the moment I walk through the door. For me, cozy home organizing starts with giving everyday things a place to go, and a console has been one of the simplest ways to do that. It holds what I need and keeps the room feeling intentional and peaceful.

Today, I will share how we use a storage console for additional storage in our home.

Here, I chose woven baskets to add extra hidden storage while keeping things tidy. The texture of woven baskets adds an extra layer of warmth and beauty to any space. Since the storage console is neutral, I chose dark brown baskets. The brown tone of the baskets gives another level of charm to this space. Of course, remember to measure the open spaces so every basket fits perfectly.
Inside the woven baskets, I keep linens like table runners and holiday napkins neatly tucked away.
I also keep a collection of tealights and candlesticks here in a variety of colors. To me, tealights and candlesticks are one of the most timeless, affordable ways to add coziness and warmth to any space.
Of course, you could also add holiday serving utensils here, too.

Console Cabinets Are Perfect For Displaying China
This beautiful collection of white china dishes holds a special place in my heart, and I knew I wanted to display them where I could see them. They were handed down to me from my family, so the glass-door cabinets on the bottom of the console are the perfect spot for them.
Because they are a soft neutral color, they work beautifully for any occasion — from a simple family dinner to a festive holiday gathering. These china dishes make a beautiful statement and are perfect for bringing out on special occasions.
Additional Storage Ideas for a Console Cabinet
In the entryway, you can also use a console cabinet to store blankets, hats, mittens, and scarves. This is especially helpful during the winter months.
A console in a game room is a great place to organize toys, books, and games. You could add a few extra blankets here, too.
A craft room always needs all the storage it can get. Think about all the arts and crafts supplies you could store in a console cabinet. The same goes for a sewing room: a console table would be a great spot for fabrics and other sewing items.
The possibilities are endless when you need extra storage. Remember, a storage bench, bookshelf, or dresser are other options to consider, too.
Adding The Final Touches With Simple Decor
Now comes the fun part! The top of the console is a space I love to keep simple, yet warm and welcoming. Because it sits in our foyer, I like to keep simple decor pieces out that we can enjoy year-round. I chose timeless pieces that I can transition through every season, like the candlestick lamps. Paired with a wooden bowl, simple greenery balls, and an essential oil diffuser, they create a peaceful and calming welcome.
My favorite essential oil scent for a relaxing and calming welcome is lavender oil. While I enjoy diffusing a variety of blends, you can find more essential oil favorites here.
To add one more element of warmth, I chose a French country wooden mirror to create a cozy focal point. The mirror brings it all together and adds an inviting touch. This intentional storage piece, with its calm space, allows me to make small seasonal changes for holidays without feeling cluttered. It’s also a space that evolves beautifully while staying true to a simple, organized home.

Adding this console to our foyer has been such a practical and heartwarming addition to our home.
It provides much-needed storage while holding meaningful items. It also creates a calm, decorative statement the moment you walk through the door.
